Month 3, Winner 3

Written by m4d0o3e

It would be wishful thinking to think that EMEA would be "normal". In reality, it was anything but normal. A few disqualifications, a few underdogs and a dash of upsets. Truly the perfect way to spend your Saturday, right? Well, that's what the EMEA teams thought. Clearly, they were not worried about our mental health or heart stability. So lock in your seatbelts, as we go through a rollercoaster of a Monthly Finals...

Quarter Final #1 | F/A Jordan 4'S 0-3 Eclipsar Esport

F/A Jordan 4'S made it to the Monthly Finals by beating SK Gaming in the penultimate round of the Upper Bracket, before defeating Reverso Gaming EU in the qualifying match. However, before the tournament, one of their players, Decaii, was banned and so replaced by blaksxy. Meanwhile, Eclipsar benefitted from Reverso Gaming EU's disqualification as the winner of the tiebreaker and was invited to the MFs. The Frenchmen did not squander this opportunity given to them and strolled past J4S, who were unable to make another upset.

Quarter Final #2 | ZETA DIVISION 2-3 SK Gaming

This match was everything you could ask for from a match of Brawl Stars. Ping-pong-like games, tactical battles in the draft, and of course, some of the highest level of skill you will see. The only thing one could complain about is that it didn't come at a later stage. Despite ZETA having the lead or scores being level for most of the match, SK were the ones who clinched victory after a nervy double match point. With that victory, SK gained vital ground over their rivals for World Finals qualification.

Quarter Final #3 | Oceanus Gaming 1-3 HMBLE

So far this year, it had seemed that SK, ZETA, and HMB had gone ahead of the pack in terms of points and skill, with OCG being the leaders of "the rest". Now was their chance to prove that they had what it takes to make the WF spots as well. They initially put up a good fight, bringing scores to 1-1, but following HMBLE's victory in Safe Zone, OCG were unable to hang on and the Italian org took home the victory to move to their 3rd semifinal in as many months.

Quarter Final #4 | Reply Totem 3-0 Ladder>Skill

Having beaten BC* Gaming twice to reach the Monthly Finals, LS could have easily been a banana peel for Reply Totem. However, they showed us a glimpse of what they would be doing later on in the tournament as they crushed LS' hopes without losing a single game. In the semis faced a more formidable opponent in HMBLE, and would be a real test for Totem.

Semi Final #1 | Eclipsar Esport 3-1 SK Gaming

From the beginning of this match, it was evident that ECP meant business. Despite losing the first set, they took it to the wire and it was by no means an easy win for SK. And after that, they were out of sight - winning all 6 games that followed, sending SK home in dramatic fashion. This was perhaps the biggest upset in an EMEA Monthly Final this year, and it means that there is some daylight between ECP and their fellow contenders for LCQ.

Semi Final #2 | HMBLE 2-3 Reply Totem

But what's better than 1 upset in the semi finals? 2 upsets in the semi finals! So far this year, the only "top" team Totem had faced were SK, both times in the quarter finals, both times ending in a resounding defeat. This match served as a measurement for TTM to see where they rank against the best in their region, and the world - had they just drawn the short straw by facing SK twice, or had they fallen from the ranks of EMEA's elite? Well, all 3 players showed us exactly why they were as decorated as they are. In a nailbiting match which went to double match point in Flaring Phoenix, TTM's experience came through, and with ice in their veins, they won the Italian derby.

Grand Finals | Eclipsar Esport 1-3 Reply Totem

Who predicted this to be the finals of EMEA? Going into this month, both teams seemed to be sat in an LCQ race - no more, and no less. But following their respective incredible runs, they now found themselves with the chance to convert this into a World Finals race. In the match itself, it was Totem who drew first blood, it was Totem who extended the lead, and despite ECP pulling one back, it was Totem who took home the trophy for May after a turbulent couple of months.

So, 7 matches later, the race for international spots looks completely different. BC* Gaming, who were comfortably sat in 5th, now find themselves with a mountain to climb, as they are 54 points behind 6th-placed OCG. Talking about Oceanus, will they be able to hold onto their spot following Cube's retirement? And as for our two grand finalists - TTM find themselves just 1 point away from WF spots, whilst ECP sit in the middle of LCQ and WF spots. And at the top of the tree, SK hold 1st for the 3rd consecutive month thanks to their consistency, but close behind them are HMB, and ZETA. This doesn't even mention FUT, though they are all but out of the race for LCQ. Either way, next month will be VERY interesting indeed. Will it be a 4th new winner? Will an old champion return? Or is this finally the start of the Broman Empire's reign?
