Upsets in NA

Written by leafy

This month NA was full of upsets - let’s go over all of them starting off the quarterfinals.

QUARTERFINALS

Tribe VS JCT

With Tribe coming off of a huge first monthly final win, they were looking poised to make it to the grand finals once again. Set 1 was Dueling Beetles, and Tribe looked amazing as they took the first set. However, JCT came back clutching an intense Brawl Ball set and with 2 convincing drafts in Bounty (Secondbest’s Sam) and Knockout they managed to upset the match and take down Tribe Gaming in the quarterfinals.

Real Ones vs 512

After some drama between Real Ones and Toast with the latter trying to disqualify Real Ones from playing, Real Ones managed to keep their place in the monthly finals. Their opponent? 512, a rather new team like themselves. Real Ones managed to get a 2-0 set lead against 512, but it all started to crumble and 512 managed to pull off a reverse sweep to knock out Real Ones.

R7 VS West Coast

Many expected this match to be a nail biter, but R7 came in on fire and absolutely dominated West Coast. The first knockout set was close, but every other game was absolute domination from R7 as they managed to sweep West Coast without dropping a single game.

STMN Vs DC Team

Unsurprisingly, STMN swept this rather new team. No disrespect to DC Team as they have some amazing players but STMN just are on another level and 6-0ed them to make it into the Semi-finals.

SEMIFINALS

JCT vs 512

Coming off a hot win against tribe, JCT was looking to keep their streak and make it into their first finals of the year. 512 put up an amazing fight, but it was ultimately not enough to take down JCT and they were swept in a convincing 3-0 fashion.

STMN vs R7

This match was sure to be a close one as it had 2 of the best NA teams who really needed points facing off in the Semi-finals. Although R7 took the 1st set with an amazing draft, STMN shot back with an even more convincing set 2. Set 3 looked very decisive with some amazing Melodie plays from Luffy, but STMN ultimately took that set and Set 4 as well, sending them into the Finals to face JCT.

FINALS

JCT vs STMN

Many people predicted Tribe against STMN in the finals for an El Classico match up, but with JCT beating Tribe in the quarter finals, it proved to be a much more interesting matchup. JCT took the first set in Heist with some more amazing Sam gameplay from Secondbest, but STMN shot back in Set 2 with some amazing aggressive Charlie gameplay from Sans. Set 3 was absolute domination from JCT as they pulled out a deadly combo: Kit and Mico in Knockout and STMN could do nothing about it besides hope for a much better Set 4. Set 4 was Gem Grab, and it was a tight back and forth between both teams but JCT managed to gain the upper hand over STMN and win their first monthly final of the year.
