New Month, New Champions

NA is proving to the world how much of a competitive reigon they are. Lets take a dive into the May Monthly Finals.

QUARTERFINALS

Pioneers VS. Motomamis FA: Previously named JCT, last month’s monthly finals champions were able to sign to esports org Pioneers. Unfortunately, they couldn’t even get a single set against the Motomamis team which recently picked up RBM. Motomamis were able to sweep this match in a 3-0 sweep with amazing drafts.

CT Esports VS. Homeless: CT Esports, consisting of veterans Tuni, Fade and rookie Evex, were put against Homeless, consisting of Tacos, Vegeta and Shine. Things started off badly for CT with Homeless winning game 1 in the first set. But, CT would win the next 6 straight games and pull off a clean sweep. CT just looked better in this matchup and moved onto the semifinals.

West Coast FA VS. Luminosity: Although West Coast had a very convincing game 1 in hot zone, everything after pretty much went Luminosity’s way with Luminosity winning the hot zone set by a small margin, a clean sweep in Brawl Ball with both matches lasting under a minute, and a convincing heist set. This paved the way for Luminosity to make yet another semi finals.

STMN VS. Tribe Gaming: The el Classico of NA, many expected this game to go to set 5, but STMN had other plans. A close set 1 in Shooting Star down to the last few seconds led to a victory for STMN. STMN won set 2 with a cheesy gray Rosa hot zone draft, and while Tribe were able to make Set 3 close, amazing map control and aggression led STMN to sweep Tribe and set them up for a possible monthly final victory.

SEMIFINALS

Motomamis FA VS. CT Esports:

Many didn’t expect CT to accomplish much this monthly final, but this roster proved them wrong, CT took set 1 in gem grab with an unconventional draft consisting of 3 midrange brawlers with no clear mid. Motomamis would clap back with 2 dominant sets, and took CT to match point on hot zone. However, CT was able to bring back two games with amazing teamwork and coordination and bring the game to set 5. Despite CT!s best efforts and being able to win the first heist game, Motomamis adjusted very well and would end up taking the final two games, winning the match in a 3-2 scoreline and bringing them to their very first grand finals of the year.

Luminosity VS. STMN: Luminosity VS STMN, a NA west classic. This game was so Important for both teams as they both missed out on one monthly final this year. Luminosity took Set 1 on gem grab quite convincingly, but STMN came back in hot zone and the match went to 1-1. However, for Luminosity, they quickly ran through STMN in Brawl Ball and went up 2-1. After two close games of bounty that would both go in STMN's favor, it all came down to the final set of Knockout. Some very close games with clutch plays from Patchy would lead Luminosity to take the first game and get in a match point scenario. Another close game led to Bobby clutching the last round and led to STMN winning the game and taking the match to double match point. STMN won the first round, and in the second round, Bobby almost pulled off an insane 3v1, but Luminosity ended up taking 2 rounds over 1 and ultimately took the match. Unfortunately for STMN, they are still out of a LCQ spot and need to clutch up the next two monthly finals in order to claim a spot.

FINALS

Motomamis FA VS. Luminosity: Luminosity looked amazing the first two sets as they didn’t drop a single game and got a 2-0 lead. But, Motomamis knew something that we didn’t and took the third set convincingly. The next bounty set was a bit closed and led to Luminosity being at match point. They needed to win the third game to win their first Monthly Final, but Motomamis destroyed Luminosity in the third game and took the match to a set five. Motomamis looked to have a losing draft in the final match and  Luminosity convincingly took the first game of this set, but Motomamis would respond and take the game to double match point. An intense battle on Dueling Beetles led to Motomamis reverse sweeping LG and allowing them to win their first monthly final over the year.
